DP World has partnered with the International Cricket Council (ICC) and SuperSport to bring an official ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Fan Park to the DP World Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa, in June 2024.
For the first time, there will be a Fan Park set up at the DP World Wanderers Stadium for people to experience two of the most highly-anticipated fixtures in the Group Stage of the tournament. The chosen fixtures are on 3 June 2024 when South Africa starts its T20 campaign, which will be played against Sri Lanka and then on 9 June 2024 when India takes on Pakistan in one of the biggest rivalries in the sport.
The Fan Park will not only showcase the match on a giant 26m x 8m LED Screen with live commentary via SuperSport – the official broadcaster of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 – but will also offer a vast family picnic area. There will also be food trucks and activations to enjoy for fans to cheer on much-loved teams to victory at the iconic venue.
During the Fan Park experience, people will have the chance to win fantastic prizes by donating cricket equipment to the DP World Container as part of DP World’s Beyond Boundaries Initiative. The container serves as a donation bank for second-hand sporting equipment, back-to-school essentials and hygiene products, amongst others. This initiative aims to drive continuous upliftment for communities in need in South Africa.
Mohammed Akoojee, CEO & MD of DP World in sub-Saharan Africa, said: “DP World is proud to welcome cricket fans as they unite at the DP World Wanderers Stadium to cheer on their favourite teams. Through our partnership with the ICC, we are dedicated to championing the success of both men’s and women’s cricket, fostering inclusivity, and driving the sport forward. Together, we aim to forge stronger bonds between local communities and the beloved game of cricket, creating memorable moments for fans of all ages.”
DP World is a proud sponsor of the DP World Wanderers Stadium and the DP World Lions teams, with a number of DP World Lions players featuring in the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup tournament. Kagiso Rabada, Ryan Rickelton, Bjorn Fortuin and Reeza Hendricks will be representing the Proteas as they aim to win South Africa’s first ever Cricket World Cup.
“The DP World Wanderers Stadium is a fantastic place to cheer on the Proteas, with four of our own DP World Lions players in the squad this year. We are also delighted to offer fans a venue to watch India versus Pakistan as this is almost guaranteed to be a thriller. We are looking forward to welcoming friends and families to this unique experience that will feature some fun activations and surprises for you all to enjoy, with the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup coming to Africa!” said Jono Leaf-Wright, CEO of DP World Lions Cricket.
Tickets for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Fan Park at the DP World Wanderers Stadium are priced at R50 for adults and R25 for children and pensioners. They can all be purchased online at www.ticketpros.co.za.
