DP World has declared an extension of their sponsorship for the Lions, serving as the current headline partner for both the Men and Women professional teams, along with the iconic DP World Wanderers Stadium. In a significant move, the logistics giant has officially confirmed an extension of their partnership. Following DP World’s acquisition of Imperial in March 2022, the men’s and women’s teams of Lions Cricket, as well as the renowned Wanderers Stadium, transitioned from the Imperial Brand to DP World.

The DP World Wanderers Stadium continues to host world-class events, from ICC Cricket World Cup finals to Davis Cup Tennis, music concerts, product launches, weddings, Presidential speeches, the SA20 final, and more. With bat and ball in hand, both the DP World Lions Men and Women teams are having a successful season, and they are pleased to share the sponsorship with their Blind and Deaf teammates.

DP World’s support is a welcomed reward for two teams that have consistently given their all in recent years, representing their Union and country with tremendous success. Lions Cricket CEO Jono Leaf-Wright expressed pride, stating, “Today is a significant win for the game of cricket. We always believed that this global partnership marked the continuation of greater things to come. The backing of our Blind and Deaf teams reflects a company true to its word, fair, and wholeheartedly supportive of our Pride. On behalf of our Board, teams, stadium, and fans, I thank DP World for further empowering Lions Cricket. It is our honor to hunt with you.”

The DP World Lions Deaf Cricket Team, current Inter-Provincial Tournament champions, extend their gratitude to DP World. Chairperson Sivesh Poonsamy emphasized the alignment of their success with DP World’s vision of inclusivity for Deaf and Hard of Hearing cricketers.

The DP World Lions Blind Cricket Team, South Africa One Day Cup champions, express heartfelt thanks to DP World. President and Captain Isaac Bidla appreciates the partnership’s impact on the players, officials, media, and supporters, stating, “You have elevated this team to new heights, and we are motivated and even more determined than ever before because of it.”

Esha Mansingh, DP World’s Head of Corporate Affairs & Sustainability for sub-Saharan Africa, expressed pride in the extended partnership with Lions Cricket. She emphasized the broader diversity and inclusion objective for sport on the African continent, stating, “Our support levels the playing field, ensuring that the teams enjoy the same opportunity as the DP World Lions’ Men and Women teams.”

Mansingh added, “Looking ahead, our commitment lies in empowering every player, coach, and manager with equal opportunities in all aspects of their cricketing journey.”

As the announcement settled and the sun set on the DP World Wanderers Stadium, rest assured that the City of Gold won’t sleep, and the DP World Lions Pride are hungrier for success than ever before.
