World Sports Betting has announced a renewed sponsorship agreement with the Western Province Cricket Association (WPCA), becoming the principal sponsor of both the men’s and women’s cricket teams from the province in the local CSA 4-Day, CSA 1-Day, and CSA T20 competitions. As part of this partnership, the Newlands Cricket Ground will be renamed the World Sports Betting Newlands Cricket Ground.

Warren Tannous, CEO of World Sports Betting, expressed satisfaction with the partnership, highlighting the company’s previous involvement with the team and its strong presence in the Western Cape region. Tannous emphasized the company’s enthusiasm for returning to Newlands with this new agreement. “We have a history with the club, having sponsored the then Cape Cobras previously” said Tannous. “As the current sponsor of the World Sports Betting Cape Met, the Western Cape has become a stronghold for our brand and seeing our orange return to Newlands is something we are really excited about.”

Yolandi Venter, Sponsorship Manager at World Sports Betting, noted the company’s interest in supporting cricket and particularly the Western Province teams, citing the brand’s strong local support in the Cape Town area as a key factor in their decision to invest in the sport locally. We have multiple retail outlets in and around Cape Town and our brand has been well supported by the local community. Being able to give back by investing in local cricket just made sense to us as a brand,” she said.

Johannes Adams, President of the WPCA, welcomed the sponsorship, acknowledging the previous collaborations between the two entities and expressing optimism for the future. Adams highlighted the current strength of the men’s and women’s teams and their representation at national levels, as well as their recent successes in domestic competitions. He sees the sponsorship as both a vote of confidence and a motivational boost for the teams.

The partnership is set to officially begin on 7 March 2024, coinciding with the start of the domestic CSA T20 competition, and is planned for an initial duration of three seasons. World Sports Betting aims to engage cricket fans with various promotions and campaigns, both during matches and through their social media channels, encouraging fans to stay connected for updates.

This collaboration marks a significant commitment from World Sports Betting to the local cricket scene, and both parties express optimism for the positive impact it will have on the sport and its supporters in the Western Cape.
